Building the reinforcement structure for a heat pump installation in Nice

OMPT STRUCTURE, a structural and concrete engineering office, was commissioned by a hotel to carry out the calculations and sizing of a reinforcement structure for the installation of a heat pump.

As part of this project, a robust support structure was designed and installed to spread the loads without compromising the integrity of the existing roof. This structure is made up of three galvanised steel HEA160 sections, each about 3.93 metres long, ensuring optimal resistance to the loads of the new machines.

To ensure the stability and anchorage of the whole assembly, custom steel shoes were fabricated according to the prescriptions of the structural engineering office (BET). These shoes consist of:

  • a 200×400 mm galvanised steel base plate, 10 mm thick,
  • a 200×200 mm angle bracket, 10 mm thick,
  • a secure fixing system comprising:
  • two M12 bolts for the beam-to-shoe connection,
  • four M16 x 130 rods and nuts, chemically sealed with HILTI HIT-HY 200A resin, for fixing the base plate to the wall.

The elements of the structure were assembled by welding and bolting, ensuring optimal strength.

Thanks to this work, carried out in compliance with current standards, the new structure absorbs and redistributes the equipment loads effectively without affecting the existing roof, ensuring durability, safety and performance for the hotel.

The specialists of the OMPT STRUCTURE engineering office in Cannes work on sites throughout the Alpes-Maritimes département (06), from Monaco to Toulon.
